Everyone is becoming a salesperson - Trendwatching magazine (2015) defined sellsumers phenomenon as a mega-trend which give chance for consumers to become a mini business themselves. Sellsumers is combinations between seller and consumers. It means that a seller is a consumer as well for some products that they consumed. A car consumer for instance, he/she bought a new car then after 1 year used that, they selling that as second-hand car, this case automatically be categorized as a sellsumers process.
Based on the case study stated above, I would say that sellsumers is really trendy phenomena nowadays. Everybody can sell anything they have and whenever they want. It clearly be seen in the reality that people have social media or online access as a way to selling their products. Facebook market place, eBay, amazon as example which allows users to be as a sellsumers by selling their products and also buying something from the platform. Technology helped a lot in these phenomena which make people much easier to get access for making money. Then, I think that the trend of online shopping could be another reason why people being as a sellsumers. The benefit from online platform is that salesperson can easily promote their product through online. In my opinion, life skill and creativity are the important thing in the market to compete with each other since everybody can be as a salesperson. As Chitty (2018) said that personal selling is salesperson works with prospective buyers and attempts to influence their purchase needs. Salesperson need to think and adapt to meet with consumers expectation since different target market have their different needs. I think that a salesperson can’t fulfil whole target market in this world, this is why everybody can be as a salesperson by create something new based on their interest and creativity. Let’s take home-made food, crafts, fashion stuff, automotive stuff, etc as example of creation from salesperson which advertised in social media. People can easily create that then sell them online to make money.
In terms of my personal experiences, I could be categorised as sellsumers as well since I used to sell my stuff that I rarely use like watches, shirts, etc to make some money. Sometimes I sold them to my friends because easy to communicate or I posted them online in my Facebook for others people who interested in my stuff. I believe that this phenomenon will be really popular in the future following with the changing of technology.
